For a long time, people have been confused about the difference between top loader and front loader washing machines. Although both of them serve the primary purpose of washing clothes, yet they both are remarkably different from each other in terms of price, style, technique for washing as well as energy consumption. Here is a list of things that sets them apart:

What’s top and front Loader?

The most commonly used washing machine in homes, Top Loader operates in the form of a vertical tub that has an agitator in the middle for churning clothes and water for washing clothes.  A lid is placed on the top of the machine. On the other hand, front loader are more popular for commercial purposes and increasingly getting popular in homes because they operate on a horizontal drum. A door is on the front unit.

Working mechanism

The working mechanism of top and front loader is quite different. While the top loader washing machine uses agitator to move water and clothes, front loader uses gravity. Instead of an agitator, it has a drum that turns and drop clothes to and fro into water to ensure that they are cleaning.

Laundry cleaning

Since top loader uses agitator to clean, hence it might be tough on the clothes. On the other hand, front loader doesn’t use an agitator and therefore, it is softer on clothes. Generally, clothes washed in front loader last longer than their top loader counterparts.

Energy consumption

Most of the front loaders have excellent energy ranking, some of them saving more than 50 percent of water and electricity than the top loaders, also the front loaders spin faster, hence the time required to dry them is actually lesser.

Adding clothes

Adding clothes is easier in top loaders, since you can add more clothes in between the cycle, ideal for families where kids accidentally forget a few things. At the same time, unlike front loaders, top loaders don’t require special types of detergents

Space

Front loaders take less space and you can stack a dryer on them. But this isn’t possible with top loaders.

Price

On an average, any front loader would be costlier than its top loader counterpart. This is one of the reasons why families prefer top loaders over the front loaders. But generally, most of the front loaders pay for their price by providing energy savings.
