It may not be something that you’d initially think your bathroom needed, but bathroom radiators are a heated towel rail. They are especially useful during the cold months. Most people would not want to step into the bathroom when the cold months come in as it will feel like an ice cube.

It is after all already uncomfortable in other parts of the house, more so in the bathroom because of the tiles installed in it. This is where bathroom radiators or towel rails come in handy. When you have one installed in your restroom, the temperature inside the room is not only regulated but you also get a warm towel or robe when you take a shower or bath. Doesn’t that sound luxurious?

Depending on the model you will buy, bathroom radiators can be expensive when compared with other bathroom accessories. That’s why you want to make sure that it will last you for years. The key to that is that it should be maintained. If you’ve never owned a bathroom radiator before, and you don’t know what to do about its maintenance, read through the list below.

Always clean it

It takes very little effort to clean the bathroom radiator. All you need to do is wipe the towel rail with a damp cloth to get rid of any stains and the like. But you also need to make sure that you dry it thoroughly with a kitchen paper or dry cloth. If you find some stains that are stubborn, you can use a variety of cleaning agents to help with stain removal. These can be soapy water, glass cleaner etc. Please note that there are cleaning agents that you need to avoid, as they cause the material covering your radiator to corrode. When you find that your towel rail has rusted, research for an organic cleanser to help you get rid of it.

Bleed it when necessary

After using for some time, bathroom radiators tend to have a build-up of air. This makes the top part colder than the bottom part and leads to the radiator working inefficiently. You may not feel it as the radiator would still work hard to ensure that the bathroom will be heated, but you might be surprised that your electric bill has gone higher. To avoid this incident, you just need to bleed your radiator. Just turn off the heating system, and let the water inside cool down. With your radiator key, turn the bleed valve on to let the air rise and make sure to catch any water that will fall. Read through the manual thoroughly so that you will not make any mistake in the bleeding process.

Watch out for problems such as leakage or a peculiar noise coming from the radiator

If you see any leakage or hear a weird noise from your radiator, it would be best to call the service of a professional. There are a number of reasons why this could happen, and it could be something as simple as improper installation. But it’s better not to assume and let experts see for themselves so that they can make the necessary adjustments or repairs.
