5 Services to Invest In Before You Move Into a New Home

Moving from your home can be both exciting and stressful. You are looking forward to the new chapter in your life; however, the actual process of moving can be a lot to take in. One thing that you can do to make your new move easier on you is to opt for certain services before you actually move from the old to the new. Take a look at the following five services to consider before you move.

  1. Moving Company

Some people opt to invite all their friends and family members with trucks to help them on moving day. While this is a great way to save money, it can also be cause for disaster. Instead of owing favors to everyone you know, it’s a good idea to simply invest in a professional moving company. This could be something as simple as hiring a pod company to come and make it easier for you to move boxes from one place to another, or you may want to invest in a real moving company that actually packs and moves for you.

There are benefits to each one, so be sure to do some thorough research before making your final decision.

  1. Cable/Internet

As a society, we have come to rely on cable and internet to provide us with countless amounts of entertainment or allow us to get work done remotely. When you’re moving into a new home, it may be a good idea to see if you can set up an appointment to have your cable/internet moved to your new home on the day of your move. This way, when you’re done unpacking for the day, you can sit on the floor and enjoy some entertainment, or you can catch up on work emails without blowing through your data.

  1. Security System

Having a home security camera system is a great way to protect your home from intruders or give you peace of mind for disasters like fire. If you have one at your current home, contact your provider before you move and let them know that you plan on moving. If you give them a good amount of warning, you may be able to take the current system with you, which will allow you to save money on an entirely new system.

Even if you can’t take the current system with you, mentioning that you’re moving may make you eligible for discounts or other benefits. If you don’t currently have a system but want one, you can still contact a provider before you move to schedule your appointment in advance. This way, you don’t have to wait too long to have the new system set up after you move.

  1. Utilities

Aside from cable/internet and security systems, talking with your utility providers before you move is also a good idea. This way, you don’t have to worry about paying for utilities at your old home if you forget to call. Plus, should the current owners switch utilities at the home you’re buying, and you forget to do so, you could find yourself with power or gas, and that’s not something you want to experience. In most cases, the utility companies will simply just need to change your address, so there’s no need for someone to physically come out and have an appointment. This is also beneficial when you’re in the midst of moving.

  1. Sitters

If you have small children or pets, moving day can be a disaster. Be sure to hire someone to watch your pets or your children on the day of the move to keep them out of the way. This will allow you to handle the closing as well as unpack without worrying about a dog or child getting lost or injured. If you’re moving to a brand-new location, it’s a good idea to look into schools, daycares, or other activities for your child before you move too. This way, they don’t have to endure a major disruption to their life just because of a new home.

Moving may be stressful, but when you factor in all the services you can take care of ahead of time, it becomes less daunting of a task.
