The latest addition to the ever-increasing family of amazing light fixtures is the Ákob leather lamp by Tjiang Supertini, which has been crafted with the ancient Indonesian basket weaving and boiled leather technique. Making good use of leather’s decorative value, the Ákob lamp features leather strips that have been laser cut into precise measurements to guarantee weaving consistency. The basket-like shape, which is usually found in South East Asia basketry, has been woven by a slot-joint that stiffens the interlocking during the boiling process.
After this, they leave the lamp to dry for two to three days to reach structural sophistication. The Ákob leather lamp was created as part of the ‘VS’ project conducted by Air Division and Nangyang Academy of Fine Arts.
