RIT’s Graduate Director for Industrial Design and the internationally recognized designer Stan Rickel has recently collaborated with Design Difference and the ArcWorks Design on a project dubbed “Ants”. The in-house design team at ArcWorks Design is also known as the Daylite Super 7 (DS7). The DS7 Team aims create things of individual character that create a strong bond between the consumer and their product. The Ants table has its top made from imperfect spalted maple taken from stressed trees and no two tabletops look similar.
To celebrate the individual character, they haven’t done anything with the woody edges. Each table in the “Ants” project will come branded with the DS7 logo, a serial number and the description of the making and the philosophy behind the idea. Only the tabs connecting legs to the table and the feet are of the same shape and size. The legs differ somewhat from one another and the tops differ noticeably.
A total of 15 tables will be made initially and have been named “ants” after their low height and strength. Available in three different sizes, the Ants tables will be sold online and in galleries.
