Electrolux Design Lab Top 10 finalists announced

Around a month back, Electrolux Design Lab 2012 announced 30 semi finalists who moved ahead compete to find a place in the Electrolux Design Lab 2012 final. Now, the top ten finalists have been announced and they will participate in the final on October 25, 2012 in Milan, Italy. The first prize is €5,000 and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design centre. The second and the third prize are €3,000 and €2,000 respectively. Let’s take a look at the finalists of the Electrolux Design Lab 2012.

  • Memory by WenYao Cai

The Memory coffee machine makes use of hand print recognition to serve coffee to perfection. Memory, as the name says, remembers your preferences every time. The coffee maker scans your hand and serves coffee to your liking.

  • SmartPlate by Julian Caraulani


SmartPlate is an intelligent dish that physically understands food and transforms it into sound for a fuller sensory experience. The SmartPlate connects wirelessly to your mobile devices to identify the food and its ingredients and attaches musical notes, harmonies and rhythm to each ingredient.

  • Tastee by Christopher Holm-Hansen

The Tastee is a taste indicator that is designed to help the chef in bringing out the flavors in the food. The Tastee looks like a regular spoon and tastes the food for you. By doing the tasting, it helps you cook delicious meals for you and your family.

  • Mo’Sphere by Yunuén Hernández


Mo’Sphere is based on molecular cooking used by famous chefs and Five Star restaurants. It lets home chefs experiment and expeiernce new flavors and sensations.

  • Impress by Ben de la Roche


Impress aims to revolutionize the way we use our refrigerators. The Impress is a refrigeration wall that holds your food and drinks in the open unlike the regular fridge that keeps food items behind doors. This way, you can always remember what’s in your refrigerator. When there is nothing in the ‘Impress, it doesn’t refrigerator, thereby saving energy.

  • Treat by Amy Mon-Chu Liu

The Treat offers a neat solution to combine classic food storage techniques like vacuum sealing with modern remote, mobile technology to deliver freshness and for the busy people of today. The Treat notifies you of the expiring food by changing color and finally dropping down from the tree when the food is completely expired.

  • Easy Stir by Lisa Frodadottir Låstad

The Easystir does stirring for you by using magnets that react to the induction stove. Therefore, Easystir doesn’t need any batteries or a power outlet. The user can control the stirring speed and the Easystir adjusts automatically to fit any vessel.

  • Spummy by Alexandre de Bastiani

The Spummy uses nano-technology to form edible foam with any flavor or combination of flavors to create restaurant style yummy treats at home.

  • Aeroball by Jan Ankiersztajn
