If you are into indoor gardening and love fish equally, you are surely going to like the Aquaponics Garden, a project by Back to the Roots. The Aquaponics Garden combines a stylish tabletop fish tank that cleans itself and a planter into one unit. It lets homeowners grow fresh herbs and vegetables throughout the year while watching their favorite fish swim underneath the planter. A closed-loop ecosystem, the Aquaponics Garden lets you grow a range of fresh produce, including beans, basil, thyme, baby greens, oregano, mint, parsley, spinach and many more.
The wastewater from the fish, which is broken down by bacteria into nutrients, works as an organic fertilizer for the plants. The included air pump sends the nutrients up and oxygenates the water. While the plants absorb the nutrients, the cleaned water comes down again to the fish tank. The plants get the nutrients from the fish only, so you don’t have to add any other artificial fertilizers.
Each space-saving Aquaponics Garden comes complete with the fish tank and garden top, air pump, five pods with pebbles and organic seeds. The good folks at Back to the Roots are currently looking for $100,000 in funding to back this project.
