5 Services You May Need During Moving Day

For most people, moving to a new home is not a one-man job. Not only are you going to want help packing everything up, and transporting it to the new location, but some services out there can make the day much easier for you. A lot goes in to relocating, and by using some of the services mentioned below, you can remove a few sources of stress, make moving easier, and save yourself some work.

Moving Service

First of all, you’ll most likely want to look into moving services. Rather than renting a truck, and attempting to move all of your boxes and furniture yourself, a good moving company will take care of this for you, and make sure that everything arrives in one piece. There is an art to storing everything in a moving truck so that it all fits and nothing breaks – trying to do this on your own can lead to problems. Unless you only have a couple of boxes to move, you’ll want some people to help you out, and a moving service is the way to go.

Storage Facility

Sometimes we have too many things to fit into our new place, or the new place isn’t ready for all of them yet. You still need to get everything out of your current home though, so you’ll need a place to store them. This is when you would rent from a storage facility, and keep all of your belongings safe for the time being. At most storage facilities you can select what size room you need, so that you don’t have to spend money on extra space you won’t use. Before or on the day of the move, you can drop your stuff off in your rented space, and then go pick it up when you need it.

Pet Sitter

For those of us with pets – especially dogs and cats – they can get in the way on the day of the move. The doors to your home will most likely remain open as people move everything into and out of the truck, and you don’t want to have to worry about your pet getting lost, or someone tripping over them. Consider hiring a pet sitter to take them out of the house for the day, and you can pick them up once everything is done. You can also look for pet day-cares in your area, in which your pet can hang out for the day with other pets.

Junk Collection

As we go through all of our belongings, many of us find that we don’t need everything we own. It doesn’t make sense to pack junk away and bring it to the new home, so take this opportunity to get rid of it. Put all of the junk you want to get rid of into a pile, and contact a junk collector to come and take it away on the day of the move. Depending on the company you go with, you can even get a tax donation by donating your junk. If you can get the junk removed before moving day, that’s even better, as that is just less stuff that is in the way.

Electronics Setup

Finally, you may need someone to come in and either disconnect your current electronics, or set them up at your new place. Things like wall-mounted TVs, Internet connections, or security systems sometimes need professionals to hook them up, so you might as well have them come on the day you move. Set these appointments up in advance, and allow them to do their work while the movers are busy, or immediately before/after the moving is complete.

Take Advantage Of The Services Available To You

There’s plenty of stress on moving day, so if you can find some services that will help you out, you should take advantage of them. By using some of the services mentioned above, your moving day will run more smoothly, and your house will get set up quicker. While going it alone could save you money, if it ends up creating more problems and stress, it may not be worth it, so consider each of the items above, and see which ones will work best for you.
