Bichos by Martinho Pita: Unique lamps made with discarded oak trees

Designed by Portuguese architect Martinho Pita, Bichos is a series of lamps handmade with discarded Holm (Holly) Oak tree branches. Bicho, in Portuguese, means a ‘creature’. However, Bichos lamps do not refer to any particular animal. Since each branch is unique, every lamp in the Bichos family is one-of-a-kind. The way blood flows through the body, the textile-wrapped electrical cords run through each Bichos lamp. The tree branches used to create the lamps come from pruning of the oak trees. The oak wood is quite hard and is famous as high quality firewood.
