Getting professionals do clean the carpet is not feasible all the time, this is where, a few tips from pros can really do the trick for you. These tips will help you keep your carpet clean and looking new.

Don’t rub stains, blot them

If you have stains on your carpet, do not rub them instead dab them with a clean cloth and cleaning solution. You can also use a sponge or paper towels. The reason why it is recommended to blot the stains is because of the pressure that is applied by blotting which helps in soaking the stains up. When you rub the stains, you are actually letting the particles go deep into the fibers of the carpet. This can also result in premature breaking of the fibers. Even when you blot, make sure you start inward and then go out this will prevent the stain from spreading.

Use Club Soda

For wine and beer stains you can use club soda to take them out, there is a catch here, and that is it has to be used correctly. Take a clean cloth and pour a little soda on it to blot the area, if the stain does not come out with the soda, then you can mix equal amounts of white vinegar a water into a handheld sprayer and spray it on the area. Leave this mixture for 10-15 mins so that it can soak in the stain you can also use a sponge while putting this mixture. This process can be repeated until the stain is eradicated.

After the stain is gone, you can then use warm water to rinse the spot. You then need to use a hand brush and in the natural direction brush the strands of the carpet. After you are done brushing, then you can take a paper towel big enough to cover the area and place something heavy like a book. The remaining dampness will be absorbed by the towel. Leave it until it dries up completely.

Shaving Cream

Another good way to clean your carpet is by using the shaving cream. This is good for general stains and can take care of almost all kinds of stains. All you have to do is apply the cream right on the stain and let it be there for half an hour, after that you can use a dry white cloth to blot the stain. Once you have done that, you can then spray the area with the water and white vinegar mixture and use a cloth to wipe the solution.

Use ice for Dried Gum

If you have dried chewing gum on your carpet, you can take it out by using ice cubes. All you have to do is take the cubes and freeze the gum for around 30 seconds; this will help in solidifying the gum. To lift the glob, you need to use a spoon and if necessary cut out the carpet strands where the gum is still stuck. Make sure you cut it in such a way that it does not become noticeable.
