Canadian novelist, visual artist and designer Douglas Coupland has teamed up with Vancouver-based SwitzerCultCreative for a new collection of luxury furniture. The collection is a reflection of everything Coupland uses on daily basis and comprises of a desk, chair, lamp and bookshelves. These pieces have been designed with an aim to unleash originality, dopamine, elegance and timelessness into the user’s world. Coupland uses a Japanese lacquer colored escritoire.
The “Douglas Coupland for SwitzerCultCreative” collection is currently being exhibited at the Toronto’s Interior Design Show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The two desks in the series – The Bento Box Escritoire and the special edition Paint Box Escritoire – are designed on Douglas Coupland’s personal theme. Bothe the desks feature wood construction, leather lined desktop, one drawer and storage boxes. The interior is trimmed in gold leaf. The Paint Box Escritoire desk – Special Edition comes in White lacquer with Cinnabar leather. A version of the same is accompanied with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist

The Writer’s Seat in the collection is ergonomic ally designed to complement the escritoire. The Writer’s Seat is comfortable to sit on whether you’re doing any ink work or working on your laptop. It is available in five different colors.

The minimalist Osaka bookshelves get their name from the similar shelving type that survived the 1995 Osaka earthquake and was seen by Douglas Coupland. The stackable bookcase, which can be arranged in varied configurations like Lego, enjoys wood construction with glass front doors and smooth opening mechanism. If you wish to change proportions, there are the caps and kicks.

The Ryoan-ji lamps have a checker pattern and periwinkle color, which is inspired by a sliding door Coupland saw in Kyoto’s Ryoan-ji Temple in 1986. There is a floor lamp and a desk lamp in the series flaunting powder coated brass tower with base finished with gold leaf. The lamp shades are simple wire frames with translucent shoji-type material.
