Greg Papove uses socks as inspiration for his new collection

To create something creative and unusual, you can find inspiration in almost anything around you and the “Socks + Furniture” collection by Greg Papove is a great example to prove the same. For this project, Greg Papove took inspiration from socks, their usage and social significance to create a new furniture collection. The project also aimed at discovering material production methods, human-object relations and finding new ways of reprocessing. The upshot of the project are three furniture units inspired by socks – Zap Lamp, Unity Sofa and Five Toes Coffee Table.

  •  Zap Lamp

It is a floor lamp with a rough carpet base and the inspiration for this lamp comes from the quality of socks to produce static electricity. Enhancing interaction in a unique way, you have to rub his/her socks to generate static electricity that is passed to the lamp through your finger. A touch switch with low sensitivity turns on the lamp, thanks to the static electric shock. There is an adjustable timer and the lamp delivers soothing mood lighting.

  • Unity Sofa

This project hides the chairs under a slipcover the very same way the socks hide our feet. A new spin on the idea of sofa design, the individual chairs here get together to form a functional and comfortable seating unit.

  •  Five Toes Coffee Table:

The Five Toes Coffee Table stands on five legs (inspired by toe socks) and is assembled/disassembled using socks as clasps. Moreover, the table is flat packed and can be easily carried from one place to the other. The coffee table can be given a colorful makeover by using different colored socks.
