Multifunctional Lumio LED lamp unfolds beautifully from a book

Created by architect and industrial designer Max Gunawan, the Lumio is more than a lamp. This multifunctional lighting fixture can be used a table lamp, a wall sconce, accent light, emergency light, ceiling pendant or an outdoor light as per your needs. Inspired by the idea of an illuminated book, the Lumio folds into a compact book, which makes it highly portable. It lights up when you open the book cover and turns off when you close the book.

The intelligent spine design lets users to control the brightness by adjusting the angle without the need for a switch or button. The Lumio LED lamp is powered by a lithium ion battery, which eight hours of light on a charge. The interior body has been made from durable and 100 percent recyclable DuPont Tyvek, a tear-resistant waterproof paper made from plastic fibers.

The outer body of the lamp uses Natural FSC certified wood covers in three finishes – blonde maple, warm cherry and dark walnut. Max Gunawan will be launching the Lumio LED lamp soon at Kickstarter to raise funds.
