Designed and built by exhibit designer Christalyn Snyder during a course called Metaproject 01, the Shoe Bench was created as a seating unit that allows people to put on footwear in different positions, with proper space for shoe storage. The multiple compartments provided by the tubes help maintain a sense of organization when a number of pair of shoes are stored within the bench. The details, such as holes and shoelaces, have been given to the Shoe Bench to reflect a unique design inspired by the shoes.
The Shoe Bench, inspired by Joe Columbo’s Tube Chair, aimed to promote Wilsonart’s laminate material and brand image while dealing with a unique seating context. The “Metaproject 01” course was created in collaboration with surface laminate company Wilsonart International and RIT. The whole concept looks cool, provide you don’t put inside it your stinking shoes.
