The Booken combines a table, shelf and library in one minimalist unit

Booken Library by Lema

Designed by Italian furniture design company Lema, in collaboration with designers Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay of London-based Raw Edges, the Booken presents a new take on the design of a bookshelf and functions as a table, shelf and library. Being showcased at the international furnishing show IMM Cologne, the Booken features two parallel tracks with many wooden slats that represent the classic form of the bookmark. The books can be hung on the wooden slats, which transform the library from a vertical element to a horizontal element.

For this project, Yael and Shay thought of the book as an object and as material that changes its function and reinvents itself. Angelo Meroni, chairman of Lema, cited that the Booken is a fun project that shows possibilities of the future of design and creativity in the field of furniture.
