Bau suspension lamp combines color, composition and geometric shapes

Normann Copenhagen Bau lamp

Designed by Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt and produced by Normann Copenhagen, the Bau is a sculptural hanging lamp made out of circular pieces of plywood. A suspension lamp with an attitude, the Bau enjoys an elegant design based on interlocking geometric circles moving out in all directions. The colors of the discs, sizes and off-center linkages impart the Bau lamp a living and organic expression. Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt mostly uses geometric shapes as base for his designs.

Bau lamp also expressed her keen interest in architecture. Bau, in German, means construction. Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt wants users to see her Bau lamp in curiosity and wonder about its looks when seen from the other side or angle. While the use of round pieces in different sizes and colors create a random pattern, the Bau lamp does not seem random when you give it a close look. While the bigger version of the Bau lamp costs $300, the smaller pendant version sells for $250.
