Architectural design-build studio “Because We Can” has earlier impressed us with their Cat Transit System (CTS) made for a client’s private residence in San Francisco, California. Recently, this new kind of architecture firm designed fascinating light shades inspired by blooming flowers for a loft renovation project in downtown San Francisco. The studio used large frosted bulbs in order to expose the bottom of the shade and reveal all the inviting details inside. You can see the suspending aluminum plates when you look up at these shades.
The patterns on the plates paint the ceiling with subtle, fun shadows. Since the overlapping frosted panels fall in a different orientation, no two shades are alike. The folks at Because We Can are working on many other things in this project, which are to be revealed as the project progresses. The husband and wife team of Jeffrey McGrew and Jillian Northrup lead the design-build studio.
