During the Nottingham Light Night 2013, MA Fine Art graduate Janet Wootton from the Nottingham Trent University presented the Cutty Sark table lamp, a sustainable lamp featuring a base made from a piece of recycled wood from the historic Cutty Sark ship. The Cutty Sark sustainable table lamp is an upshot of a collaborative project at Nottingham Trent University. Former Nottingham Trent University lecturer Paul Briggs provided the wooden piece from the historic ship.
Combining form, function and art with a green message, the sustainable lamp is made from copper, brass, wrought steel and the recycled wood. The light box has been made from eco-friendly bio resin with sustainable black bamboo (grown by Janet himself) and jute suspended within it. The lamp was designed in collaboration with Alan Crisp, principal lecturer in Product Design at Nottingham Trent University. Created in the shape of a ship by Alan, the Cutty Sark table lamp is lit with LED strips.
Janet said that this lamp connects history with sustainable materials, meticulous design and energy efficient lighting. Every year, Nottingham Light Night sees a variety of illuminations, projections and entertainment activities suitable for people of all ages.
