New York’s Demisch Danant gallery, which specializes in 20th century European design, is presenting the first show focused solely on the works of French designer Pierre Guariche (1926 -1995) at the Design Miami 2012. The exhibition will be showcased in two sections to highlight two breakthrough periods of the designer’s illustrious career (1950–1955 and 1958–1962). Pierre Guariche is considered as one of the most talented of the young generation of designers who came into limelight at the beginning of ‘50s.
He is famous for his commissions from the 1950s, which include a lighting collection for Disderot and the Tonneau Chair for Steiner. His designs showed his commitment to simplicity and his approach to furniture and architecture was mainly inspired by focus on form and volume. Guariche got the Rene Gabriel prize in 1965.
