Electricians job seems a small job but it is not. In reality, the electricians are very skilled persons who are highly paid in the developed countries like America and Australia.

The electrician Sydney or belonging to New York Capital, all of them are among the top highly paid professionals as per all surveys conducted so far. The need for skilled workers is growing in the United States and Australia and will increase by 10% by the end of 2028.

Being an electrician is the right job to do or not? Before looking for an answer to this question, we need to understand the electrician job in detail.

Electricians are mainly categorized into two different types.

1. Linemen (Outside Electricians):

Outside ElectricianLinemen are electrical professionals, who are working outdoor and doing the installation of electric utility transmissions and higher voltage distribution systems lines having high voltages. They are responsible to transform the electricity from power plants to substations. They are always fully equipped to manage the high voltage in residential areas, industrial and commercial suburbs.

2. Wiremen (Inside Electricians):

Wiremen are electricians who are working indoor having lower voltage power. They are responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair work of the electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings with low voltage power. Solar panel residential systems would also fall under this category.

Professional Category

As professionals, electricians are categorized into three types of certification levels.

  • Apprentice Electricians
  • Journeyman Electricians
  • Master Electricians

1. Apprentice Electricians

Apprentice ElectricianIt is the first step towards becoming a professional electrician. An electrician has to go through this apprenticeship program and is considered equivalent to a high school diploma to apply in most jobs. In this particular course, the apprentice has to take hundreds of classroom hours before joining any commercial group.

You are allowed to apply for a license as an apprentice electrician after 4 to 5 years.

2. Journeyman Electricians

After fulfilling all requirements to becoming an apprentice electrician, you can go for Journeyman electrician by going through a test. You will get the certification for this thing from the local state or federal state as well.

With the help of this certification, you are allowed to work independently without any supervision and also have credentials to further train apprentice electricians.

3. Master Electricians

Being a master electrician is considered the highest level of electrical certification with requirements from state to state. You need to cover 4000 hours as a journeyman electrician that is then followed by an extensive and in-depth- examination. They work for the most complex and commercial-based projects and got the expertise to train the journeyman electricians as well.  

Commercialized Based Electricians Category

Commercialized Based ElectricianIn between the two primary categories of electricians, there are many fields where different kinds of electrical jobs are required as per the skills and certifications. It includes

1. Industrial Electricians

This job requires you to have some journeyman electrical work in your profile to be an industrial electrician. Industrial electrician job is to do the installation, repair, and troubleshooting with the industrial machines and equipment.

2. Commercial electrician

A commercial electrician’s job is specialization in installing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical systems in commercial buildings and offices. A commercial electrician can also be called upon to further assist in planning the design of electrical systems and your profile will be build up in a way to enter the entrepreneur job. You can also start independent work with this capacity to start your own business with the electrician’s team under you.

3. Residential Electrician

A residential electrician will help in maintaining installation, repair of the home security and other equipment and it is considered the most common type of electrician who worked in homes. You fall under an apprenticeship electrician who will be reporting to a journeyman or master electrician.

4. Maintenance electrician

As a maintenance electrician, you are being given or assigned tasks with maintaining, installing, repairing, and upgrading electrical equipment in all three sectors like industrial, commercial, and homes. A maintenance electrician work is to diagnose the problems with the equipment.

5. Auto Electrician

Auto electricians are the ones who are doing specialization in auto industry vehicles like cars and other vehicles and are directly responsible for the electrical systems. To become a professional auto electrician, you need to have an in-depth understanding of the vehicle to do any diagnostic at the time of repair and maintenance.
