Joyce Chan’s Origami Rose table serves three different functions

Winner of the prestigious A’ Design Award in Furniture, Decorative Items and Homeware Design Category, the Origami Rose by Joyce (Mei Kam) Chan is a multifunctional table that serves many purposes. Designed for the compact spaces, the Origami Rose uses interlocking techniques and varying plane heights to serve three different functions – a side/bedside table, a desk and a bookshelf. The opening at the center of the Origami Rose table can accommodate a floor lamp.

The origami inspired table has been made using one sheet of 4 x 8 ft. plywood, which was cut by a CNC machine. Each cut piece was sanded, treated with three layers of Tung oil and then finished with a layer of paste wax. The assembly process involves no hardware and relies on the use of joinery and glue. Serving a range of functions, the Origami Rose table seems a perfect fit in the urban apartments where space has always been a premium.
