Driftwood is a broken away waste piece of wood that has drifted or has been washed away onto a bank of river or shore of sea or lake by wind or waves. The action of wind and water moulds them into a unique shape and gives each one of them an artistic favor.
Though many of the driftwood decorations are available in the market, would it not be nice if we were able to create something special ourselves out of the wood salvaged from outdoors. Here let us help you with a few DIY ideas-
Tree root planter
With hardy root of a tree salvaged from the waterfront, you can make a longitudinal planter and place it on a table or hang it from a wall.
Driftwood wreath
Collect twigs and other thin stems washed along the water and arrange them in the shape of a wreath. Stick to the wreath shells and starfishes and decorate it on the wall. This will be a beautiful addition to your living room.
Driftwood and seashell wind chime
Take a piece of driftwood and suspend on it various strings strung with colorful seashells from it. This will make an interesting hanging in your porch or your living room.
Driftwood table lamp
Making this table is very simple. Look for a piece of driftwood with a broad base so that it can be seated securely on the table. Attach on the top of it a wired bulb and a lampshade. Or else take a number of pieces of driftwood and attach them all around the stem of the table lamp. This will give a contrasting look to the setting of your living room.
Driftwood candle holder
Take a piece of driftwood and drill holes into it sufficiently big to accommodate tea light candles inside it. This is a very innovative idea of decorating candles in your living room and will definitely invite admiration from all those who come to your home.

Driftwood mirror
Now making a mirror out of driftwood needs some working. Take a piece of driftwood. Trim it to sufficient length so that it can comfortably accommodate clothes on it. Now drill a hole in the centre and fix a metal hook from some old discarded hanger onto it. Your driftwood clothes hanger is ready.
Driftwood table stand
Take a number of sturdy pieces of driftwood and cut them all into equal length. Now, securely fix them together in such a way that they form a stable base for a glass top that you will later on place on it. Once you have finished the work on the stand, varnish it and then place the glass top on it.
