Symtra lampshade doesn’t need bulb for illumination

Revitalizing the traditional lampshade, Humanscale has produced a creative light that doesn’t require a bulb for illumination. Hailed as “Symtra,” the bulb-less lamp slots in the light source, comprised of two vertical, parallel, trapezoid planes, inside the shade. Featuring the exterior finished in pitch black, the lamp discharges light only through the inner faces of the panels.

Developed in collaboration with industrial designer Peter Stathis, the lampshade makes use of LED technology to produce uniform light, thanks to optical waveguide technology, through two surfaces facing inward.  The Symtra lampshade looks like a conventional floor lamp, when you view it from a particular angle.

Amalgamating the modern technology with traditional design, the Symtra lamp incorporates a rotating head to control the proportion of light and shade according to the interior of your space or lighting requirements. Priced at around $400, the bulb-less lampshade is expected to reach the market in the fourth quarter of this year.
