There’s no beating the distinct polished look of a stainless steel kitchen. Stainless steel is also a popular choice when it comes to the kitchen for its ability to resist dust, dirt, stains and even corrosion.

That said and done, you can’t simply leave your stainless steel kitchen unattended to and expect it to clean itself with time. Like any other material, stainless steel needs its share of care and can give you a nice looking kitchen for ages, provided you stick to the pointers mentioned here while cleaning it.

Use Warm Water and Cloth for Routine Cleaning

Sometimes the best and easiest way to clean a stainless steel surface would be to use warm water and a clean cloth. It can be considered as the safest option to clean stainless steel surfaces on a routine basis as well.
Simply wet the stainless steel surface with warm water and wipe it dry with a clean, soft towel or wipe. It is imperative that you dry the surface nicely as the minerals in the warm water can cause water marks on the surface which would not look very pleasant.

A microfiber cleaning cloth would work well as it does a great job in absorbing the excess water on the stainless steel surface without scratching it. Make sure you also wipe in the direction of the polish lines on the stainless steel surface for best results.

Use Warm Water and a Mild Detergent Soap for Surface Stains

For those surface stains that can be easily removed with a little scrub, consider mixing a mild detergent soap with the warm water before washing the stainless steel surface. Add a few drops of lime juice for to eliminate odors as well.

Don’t use a coarse scrub that would leave scratches on the surface. Rather, use a sponge brush to clean the surface, again scrubbing in the same direction as the polish lines. Wash off the soapy water from the surface with some more warm water and dry thoroughly using a microfiber wiping cloth.

Use Glass Cleaner to remove Fingerprints

One of the main disadvantages of a stainless steel kitchen is that it can attract a lot of fingerprints and smudge marks. These marks would intensify with time and make the stainless steel surface look unclean.

You can remove fingerprints and related smudge marks from these surfaces easily using a standard glass cleaning solution. Spray the solution onto a microfiber cloth and wipe the area gently in circular motions until the mark disappears. You can also use household ammonia for the same purpose although the glass cleaner works quicker and better. Once you wipe off the smudge/fingerprint, wipe the area with a dry cloth to prevent water stains.

Use a Toothbrush and Cream for food spills and stains

A stainless steel cleaner or cream can be used to remove food spills and stains on the stainless steel kitchen surface. Apply some cream/cleaners to a wet sponge and scrub the area gently to remove the stain/spill. You can make use of a toothbrush to tackle the tricky areas like taps, corners and other hard to reach places. After removing the stain, dry the area with a microfiber cloth.

Use Baking Soda for really tough stains

Baking soda can come to your rescue in the case of a really tough stain that doesn’t seem to go no matter how many times you try to scrub it off. All you need to do is mix a tablespoon of baking soda with some water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on the stain and leave it for about an hour or so. Rub off the paste with a damp cloth afterwards and wipe the area dry immediately. Regular application of baking soda will remove the stain for good.

Use Vinegar and Lemon Juice for Burn Marks

If you find black spots on the stainless steel surface, they may likely be burn marks caused during cooking. Simply rub half a lemon and some vinegar on the marks until they disappear. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe off the excess lemon juice and vinegar, and dry the area to prevent water stains.

A stainless steel kitchen is truly a sight to behold. With proper care and maintenance, the kitchen will remain clean and shiny for many years.
