Marine light table lamp features an organic canopy made using seaweed

Marine light table lamp

Bringing nature to your home, Tel Aviv-based designer Nir Meiri has come up with a, artistic table lamp called the “marine light” that makes use of seaweed as a central material to give a whole new look to home lighting. Featuring a metal base and thin metal structural strings for the shade, the creative table lamp uses organic material (seaweed), which is dried and shrunken to cover the metal strings and shape the canopy.

Slated to be displayed at Spazio Rossana Orlandi during 2013 Salone Del Mobile, the marine light seems to make a balance between the artistic and the commercial, while bringing the natural, organic materials to the domestic environment. Seaweed, which was earlier used in different cultures for a variety of purposes, has now been cultivated and harvested for commercial use. It not only allows designers to play with their creativity, but also helps in producing green products to sustain the environment.
